Check me Out

I sometimes wonder how the 'bestsellers make it onto the scene. One day there's nothing, and the next the movie is out the day after the book premieres. Surely that many readers don't just fall out of the sky. the reader public flocks to those works like lemmings to the sea. Maybe I should put the words; 'Best Seller', in the title and maybe then I can get readers. I say that because I'm confident that once they start to read Mama Lacee, she'll do the rest. How about you? What's holding you back from checking me out?

Mama Lacee

" I tell every one of them the same thing when they come to see me; The second time you let him hurt you, you tellin' him it's OK. The more you put up with, the more you get. The first thing you do is stand up for yourself."

HOW?

                                                  HOW?

Still at the same impasse. The lack of interest is a hurdle that so far seems impossible to clear. The thought that at least folks would give me a try had crossed my mind. I guess it is just human nature to discount what is foreign. I often feel like The Brother From Another Planet when I talk to black folks about my  novel. The first response is a question, "did you write this?", followed by, "sure i'll take your card", which they obviously discard as useless.  Then they get together with their girlfriends to go see The Help.  Were it not for the positive reviews from those that have read my work, I would take the hint and put away my pen. I had a good talk with a friend that advised me to keep the faith. My reply was that I would do my best to hang on to the notion that everybody has to start somewhere. Why not behind the Glass wall.

KYLIE

How do you explain to somebody that you can smell things they can't. People aren't bloodhounds. Explain to them that, if you were there within the last 24 hours, I would knowLess than 6, and I'm on you to your next location. Tell them that, as a child you never had to hunt for Teddy. Every one of them smelled different. Don't bring up that Mommy always smelled funny when Dad would come for a visit. That would open a whole 'nother  can of worms.

Bumper Sticker

Bumper stickers, the ultimate impact statement. I don't remember them all but this one stands out;

                                                                BORN OK
                                                          THE FIRST TIME

Kylie

The truth..Most of the time it's fairly easy, they lose control of a twitch, pick at an ear. A lot of them need a deep breath to push a lie out. And some of them, you can laugh if you want to, some of them smell funny. Don't ask me to describe it.
